Waiver
For Expeditions there is a FAQ all for you! What to pack, what to
bring, what to expect. You can find this at
Expedition FAQ
Can I register at the launch site?
No, all participants must register online and complete the
waiver in advance.
We can't accept funds at any of the launch sites (that turns us into
concessionaire instead of guides - we are permitted as guides)
All transactions (money and waivers must be done in advance)
How do I know what time I should meet up with the
group?
For Day Tours and Classes meet at the start time listed. For camping
(overnight) trips, meet time will be emailed to you - we use the tide
tables to select optimum departure times.
Why are the
meet times different for different trips?
We look at the tide tables, and the length of our trips to determine
when we meet. Sometimes we meet even earlier for breakfast - this
is optional and determined on a trip by trip basis.
What skills do I need?- Expedition Trips
Kayaking and backcountry camping skills are required. If you do
not have these skills, we offer low cost classes to get you up to speed.
Contact us to arrange a date/time. We generally try to stay out of wind
and waves, but we all know that weather can change and the wind can come
up. Paddling in wind requires physical exertion. If you have only
paddled down a river (with current) try paddling up river and you
get the idea. If you have questions about your fitness level, or
what is required, please contact us.
What skills do I need -Day Trips-
you should be able to sit for 2-3 hours at a time. You
should have an average level of fitness. We generally try to stay
out of wind and waves, but we all know that weather can change and the
wind can come up. Paddling in wind requires physical exertion. If
you have only paddled down a river (with current) try paddling up
river and you get the idea. If you have questions about your
fitness level, or what is required, please
contact us.
What should I wear?
Count on getting at least a little wet. Splash from the water, rain,
anything can happen so plan on having at least one piece of rain gear
with you. If you are coming to FL from another state, please check
the forecast for Everglades City. Temps can be hotter or cooler
than expected.
Do we see
Alligators?
No, we are paddling in a marine environment. Alligators don't live
in salt water.
What wildlife might I see?
Dolphins are usually plentiful. We also see Manatee, sea turtles,
Ray, numerous wading and shore birds and birds of prey, horse shoe crab,
fish, oysters, clams. Also raccoons and don't forget - no see ums and
maybe some mosquitoes.
How can I interact with the wildlife?
You can observe the wildlife- spotters or binoculars are recommended.
Cameras are a great way to capture the moment.
What about my garbage?
This is a pack in, pack out situation. There are no garbage bins on the
islands.
What about going to the bathroom?
Many of the islands we camp at have a port o let. Some don't.
Please see Expedition FAQ
for details. There is a port-o-let at the Dog Beach just north of New
Pass (if you are attending class/day tour that is the only facility. )
Will I have Cell phone service?
Day trips- YES
Expedition Trips
-Maybe or NO depending on where we go. We are in backcountry areas,
service is spotty. |
