Passage
Charon ferry’s his dead across
Lethe, river of forgetfulness.
I paddle myself into the hypnotic
curling of the sea. Instead of death,
the whole world awaits me.
Clouds swim low against the horizon.
As I travel the roads of porpoises,
thoughts of betrayal, loss, fear,
float above me like ghostly birds,
join the egrets gliding overhead.
They fly away, lost in chalky white sky.
On an island, I sit
like Archimedes and count
grains of sand. My labors
and regrets depart with the tide,
as I dance along the shore to
the music of the sea.
